Sales of Scissor Aerial Work Platforms in the US
Sep 23, 2021
The Ritchie Brothers September market trend report shows that compared with the 2020 level, the total number of boom and scissor aerial work platforms sold through auctions in the United States has generally declined, but the price of equipment has risen significantly.
The Ritchie Brothers stated in its report that high utilization and rental rates and delays in OEM production have led to a sharp decline in the total sales of arms and scissor aerial work platforms, but the "unprecedented demand" in the market is attributed to the increase in the price of aerial equipment 29 %.
In the past three months, the price of scissor aerial work platforms has risen by 15%, while the prices of boom aerial work platforms and telescopic forklifts have both risen by 16%.
In the second quarter of 2021, the sales of scissor aerial work platforms in the United States fell -33% to 1,000 units, while Ritchie Brothers’ sales last year was 1,500 units, of which three months (June to August) fell even more. This is -57%, an increase of 740 vehicles from last year's 1,710 vehicles. Ritchie Bros. reported that in the second quarter, sales of boom aerial work platforms in the United States were 1,120 units, down -31% from 1,630 units last year, and 840 units in the past three months (June to August). Last year's 2,020 units fell -58%. Despite these declines, Ritchie Brothers stated that the market demand for scissor platforms in August was more than twice that of the same month last year, and the demand for boom lifts exceeded the previous year.
